Damien Arthur

Damien has spent most of his life doing things people told him he couldn’t do. Some of which led to trouble and most of which made him a better person, father, husband—CrossFit is one of those things. It has changed his life.

After a brief health scare, his Doctor said he was going to get diabetes if he did not make a lifestyle change. With a brief few month of running, he found CrossFit—and immediately loved it. He lost 45lbs in the process. But he also learned that there is so much about CrossFit that he resonates with and that inspires him. For instance, carrying extreme loads like Atlas, the control of objects that should not be physically controlled, the intricate and detailed footwork—the path his feet must take to accomplish a goal, and the balance required to put all these elements together.

He is in the process of becoming an Elite Trainer through ISSA, which includes becoming a Personal Trainer, a Certified Nutritionist, and a Strength and Conditioning Coach. This training also includes the Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification.

Q: What is your favorite CrossFit movement?

A: The Burpee. There is something really powerful about hitting the ground with your entire body and then getting back up again and again. Burpees are hard. They wear you out. You literally hit the ground with your face, and then you have to physically and emotionally push and pull yourself back up off the ground. You are at the lowest possible point and place you can be. And then, you get back up. It’s just empowering. And I love it.
